Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This book presents the hieroglyphic documentation of the site of Bab el-Maganin, located in the town of Armant, south of Luxor. An enclosure gate built by Antoninus Pius (138-161 AD) bears witness to a secondary cultic domain, buried under the modern houses nearly 300 meters from the main temple dedicated to the god Montu-Re. Around it lie dozens of inscribed blocks. These sets of stones were partially published in 1940 by Robert Mond and Oliver Humphrys Myers, then by Adel Farid in 1979. The work resumed at Armant under the auspices of the IFAO has gradually allowed to bring together all of this scattered documentation, which the archives of the Egypt Exploration Society in London have significantly enriched. Amongst this heterogeneous epigraphic material, it is possible to virtually reconstruct part of a monumental gate bearing the names of Ptolemy VI Philometor, Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II and Ptolemy IX Philometor II. Despite their fragmentary nature, these inscriptions provide important information about the cults of the god Montu-Re and his relatives in the Theban area during the Graeco-Roman period. En décembre 2014, les fouilles entreprises à proximité du temple de Ptah à Karnak ont mis au jour une favissa, à savoir une fosse comblée d?objets, creusée à quelques mètres à l?arrière du sanctuaire de la divinité. La fosse contenait trente-huit objets mobiliers, statues, statuettes et éléments d?appliques statuaires, en calcaire, grauwacke, alliage cuivreux et fritte égyptienne, parfois recouverts d?or. La visualisation et l?analyse du comblement de la favissa ont été rendues possibles grâce à l?apport des méthodes modernes de relevés photogrammétriques et de modélisation 3D. Creusée à la fin de l?époque ptolémaïque, la fosse a servi à abriter une statue « déclassée du dieu Ptah datant du Nouvel Empire, entourée d?éléments mobiliers et de nombreux bronzes osiriens, la plupart des objets remontant à la Troisième Période intermédiaire et à la Basse Époque (XXVe et XXVIe dynasties notamment). L?analyse et l?interprétation du comblement conduisent, dans cet ouvrage, à s?intéresser aux caches sacrées Egyptiennes dans leur ensemble et à envisager le présent dépôt comme le témoignage de l?inhumation d?une statue du dieu Ptah dans le cadre de rituels osiriens.

Ces ensembles lapidaires ont été partiellement publiés en 1940 par Robert Mond et Oliver Humphrys Myers, puis par Adel Farid en 1979. Sous les auspices de l?Ifao, la reprise des travaux sur le site d?Ermant a permis progressivement de réunir la totalité de cette documentation éparse, que les archives de l?Egypt Exploration Society à Londres ont significativement enrichie. Parmi cette matière épigraphique hétérogène, il est possible de proposer un assemblage partiel d?une porte monumentale aux noms de Ptolémée VI Philométor, Ptolémée VIII Évergète II et Ptolémée IX Philométor II.
