Aggiungi al carrello8vo in fours, pp. 22; tear in inner margin of title page (no loss of text); small armorial engraved tailpiece (printed on india paper, and mounted) on last page; in modern wrappers. Three poems, the first two about the Waterloo campaign, and the last 'On a Boy Sleeping'. Sir Thomas Elmsley Croft (1798-1835) was the grandson of Sir Herbert Croft, poet, novelist and biographer. Thomas fought at Quatre Bras, where he was severely wounded: the second poem here is an elegy for his contemporary, the Hon. Samuel Shute Barrington, who was killed in the same engagement at the age of seventeen. The title poem commemorates the selfless actions of the local Belgian women after the battle of Waterloo, who tended to the dead and dying in its dreadful aftermath. Jackson, Annals of English verse, p. 527 (describing it as 4to, although this is clearly 8vo in fours). Rare: Copac locates only the copies at the British Library and Bodleian; WorldCat adds no more copies.
