First with illustrations by T. H. Robinson. U.S. edition appearing to have been issued from the sheets of the British Bliss, Sands & Co. edition published in 1897. No date on title page. OCLC entries date this U.S. edition either 1900 or 1901. 8vo dark green cloth boards with gilt-stamped pictorial, titling, and decorative rule;… top edge gilt, 422 pages. Spine ends and corners softened, few small tears in cloth at spine ends, touch of light rubbing to spine gilt, otherwise very good to near fine.

296 pages. Hardcover: H 21.5cm x L 15.5cm. Brown dust jacket minimally decorated with raised gilt decoration and lettering to front panel plus dark brown lettering to spine; panels soiled with chipping and tears; strong creasing and curling at front panel's bottom quarter; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Red cloth…; front board and spine decorated with full length multi-colored illustrations with rear board having small centerpiece vignette; beveled board edges with some slender shelf scuffing occurring along bottom edges. All edges gilt. Some toning and light foxing to pictorial endpapers; tissue guard sheets for several color plates now lacking with those remaining well toned and having tears and/or losses as well as being just loosely laid-in. Some toning/foxing to color plates and to their adjacent leaves but otherwise interior pages overall remain quite clean. Binding is firm. Still a very good copy in a good+ dust jacket of a handsome book. With Preface and three stories: "Perseus," "The Argonauts," and "Theseus." Title page has "905" at bottom which is presumably for 1905.
