The author, who was Carrick Pursuivant of Arms, sets out the rules and formalities of the Scottish heraldic system which differs markedly from that of England. There is a 2-page foreword by John Buchan. 186 pp Textured blue cloth; gold lettering; frontispiece illustration with tissue guard; 37 full-page illustrations, many in colour; 91 illustrations in the text; top edge gilt; outer and lower edges uncut. The book is in very good condition throughout. There is an ex-libris bookplate of The Stewart Society on the fly-leaf but no other evidence of library ownership/use. A small address label has been pasted onto yhis bookplate. The illustrated d/w is not price-clipped. The top of the spine is worn and the white rear panel is soiled. The is a piece about one and a half inches square missing from the top corner of the front panel adjacent to the spine.
