Gebunden. Condizione: Neu. Neu -This book takes us deep into Antanas Sutkus« favorite motif as a photographer: children and their world. It is a theme he returned to again and again, presenting its myriad facets as well as the many interactions between the lives of children and adults. »Childhood is the most important platform f…or me as a photographer,« says Sutkus, »Children live in a different world. Sometimes I succeeded in showing that world: not the real world customary to us, but their world. Children live on another planet than earth.'With an unfailingly respectful yet astute eye, Sutkus depicts children together with their parents and relatives, with their friends, at play or hard at work in school. He captures not merely the pleasures of childhood but also its deprivations, the difficulties involved in raising children, loneliness alongside belonging, as well as the inevitable crises of childhood that can have a lifelong impact. For Sutkus, children live not in paradise but in a parallel universe, a universal life phase that transcends national and cultural borders. 176 pp. Deutsch, Englisch.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. In 1959, at just 20 years of age, Antanas Sutkus began photographing on the streets of Vilnius, then the capital of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Lithuania. Strolling through the town, his attitude was more that of a flaneur than of a photographer, observing and absorbing the essence of…daily life as it was offered to him by his fellow citizens. At the time it was difficult to find safe surroundings in such a highly controlling and controlled society as Soviet-occupied Lithuania. But the streets offered open spaces, diverse passersby, bustling traffic and multiple layers of events. It was here that people tried to carve out and preserve niches for their little moments of joy. Establishing these tiny islands of individuality within such a strict and brutal system sets the frame for Sutkus' street photography and the contrasting realities of his loving observations of everyday life.I don't like tricks or paparazzi scoops, probably that's why all my best shots are taken on village and city streets, and their main characters are ordinary passersby. While photographing, making inner contact with another person has always been important to me. It seems to be only a momentary meeting, but it is so telling. I trust my intuition, I work totally spontaneously. - Antanas Sutkus Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This book is Winfried Bullinger's extensive photographic archive of vernacular architecture from Eastern and Central Africa. A long-term project Bullinger has dedicated himself to since 2008, his portraits of African pastoralists' diverse homesincluding tents, open dwellings and hutspreserv…e indigenous architectural traditions that have been largely overlooked in the post-colonial era and are today threatened by changing ways of life. His images, each made with a large-format camera and the silver-gelatin technique, are born from a dialogue with the inhabitants and reveal architecture as a direct response, refined over centuries, to a people's specific environment and culture. Despite their variety, the structures are all made from materials available directly on site: renouncing anything superficial, they are radically efficient and sustainable. Bullinger's vision has echoes of Bernd and Hilla Becher's systematic approach to photographing architectural types, yet his focus is solely on architecture as dwelling. Although (with few exceptions) no inhabitants are to be seen in his images, Bullinger records their many traces; his camera perspective is shaped by how they use and view their homes; and he rejects ideal lighting for the unpredictable changing light of day. The result is a valuable record of rapidly disappearing African architectural heritage. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
