Spine call number removed, but bar code remains on rear, trapped under library clear plastic topcoat applied to book, which is split in places (looks fine, feels uneven in places). Of the original 12 full-color inserts (1 frontis + 11 internal plates on glossy paper), 2 are missing, 2 are detached, $ 2 are loose. The rest are lovely, with some tanning/soil/spotting to some of the margins. Octavo (6.75" x 9.25") has "drab" green cloth-covered boards with a colored paper pastedown to front cover & black lettering & design to spine. Condition is Poor: heavy soil/bleached area to rear board, tearing of cloth at front hinge, fraying at both ends of spine, corners heavily bumped with loss. Frank Baum, maintaining the lovely illustrations of artist John R Neill throughout the book's 281 pages; decorative e…ndpapers by same. Orig. published in 1932, this is a slightly later (post-1935) Reilly & Lee reprint, with NO color plates. Dark blue cloth-covered boards stamped with black lettering (publisher's name in fancy, not plain, script at heel) & design to spine & a vividly colored paper pastedown to front. Condition is VG+: exceptionally clean & bright, pages creamy white & unmarked save for a couple of stamps bearing former owner's name to front & rear endpapers, erased name in pencil in "this book belongs to" box in front. Both hinges cracked, text block secure. Alas, the original DJ is long gone, but this remains a handsome copy! Orig. published in 1931, this is a later (post-1935) printing of that First Edition (Hanff & Greene, p.98), with the color plates now rendered in black-and-white. With red-orange cloth-covered boards. black lettering & design to spine, & a brilliantly colored paper pastedown, this octavo is in VG+ condition: generally quite clean & bright, binding strong & straight, both hinges secure, pages modestly tanned around edges, light foxing & soil to exterior edges of text block & around exterior page edges in front matter. Unmarked save for a couple of name stamps of former owner to endpapers & "This Book Belongs To" box in front. Front pastedown has a tad of rubbing, else bright & colorful with no wear! Octavo (6.75" x 9.25") has dark tan cloth over boards, with black lettering & design to spine, colorful front paper pastedown. Condition is VG: very clean & bright, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Pages creamy white with light tanning to edges & an occasional tiny spot. Unmarked save for former owner's name stamp to endpapers & in "This Book Belongs To" box. Exterior shows very mild rubbing & bumping. No DJ.
