Aggiungi al carrelloSmall 4to. (260 x 192 mm). [37 leaves: 21 doubled leaves of papier antique, 16 leaves of Chine]. Leaf with vignette recto, leaf with half-title recto, leaf with title in red and green with colour floral motif recto and justification verso, 16 leaves with printed text verso to face leaf with illustration, inserted leaf of Chine with matching illustration in colour interposed between text and illustration, final leaf with achevé d'imprimer with the vignette of 'Imagerie de Watermael' dated 'Avril 1918'; text and illustration on doubled leaves stitched in the Japanese manner printed in sepia from original wood blocks (for the text) or original linoleum cuts (for the illustration) by Tijtgat throughout, inserted leaves of Chine with the illustrations in colour. Stitched as issued in original publisher's white printed paper boards with colour titles and vignettes by Tijtgat to front and rear boards, repeated colour floral motif to spine, printed endpapers with repeated colour floral motif. Edgard Tijtgat's charming Le Petit Chaperon Rouge. From the edition limited to 50 numbered copies, with this one of 40 on papier antique. Printed on thick doubled sheets of papier antique, stitched in the Japanese manner, Tijtgat's text and illustration detail the story, or at least Perrault's version, of Little Red Riding-Hood. Each of the linocuts on papier antique is preceded by a leaf of Chine with the same illustration in colour; there are, thus, 16 prints, each in two states, 32 linocuts in total. The entire text of the book, is printed from original woodblocks, including the title in three colours while all illustration (as outlined above) is linocut; the endpapers too are decorated with a repeated floral design in four colours. Tijtgat's version of Little Red Riding-hood was first printed in London in a folio edition of 15 copies in 1917. A second London edition - the present version - was published the following year in an edition of 50 copies. Both editions were issued under the imprint of Cyril Beaumont; a third edition of 100 copies was published in Tijtgat's native Belgium, in Brussells, in 1921. Tijtgat (or Tytgat) had finalised the work by 1910 but it was only issued in 1917 despite the cover of the Brussells edition indicating a date of '1915 - 1916'.

Folder. Condizione: Very Good. First Limited Edition. No. 107 of 150 limitation, on Papier de chine. Oblong, 23 by 27 cm. 7 pp. 6 mounted color plates, representing fairs in Belgium and England (three each. The palette is the artwork is tenebrous like pre-Provincal van Gogh, and the style is deliberately primitive as one finds with other post-Impressionists, among them Vlaminck, Vuillard, etc. Through these means Tijtgat conveys a sense of nostalgia, distance and loss towards the gay subject matter. The folder cover is lightly soiled. The contents are clean and fresh.

Aggiungi al carrelloBruxelles, Rémy Havermans, s.d. (1913), lg. in-4°, 30 x 24,5 cm, 90 nn pp, printed at one side, containing 16 delicately coloured full-page lino-engravings by Edgard Tijtgat. Original illustrated wrapper. Printed .in 110 copies, this being copy n°39 on Japan paper, signed and numbered in pencil by the artist. A perfect copy of the first illustrated book by the artist. (Taillart nr. 17). This publication by Tijtgat is much rarer then the printed number suggests. Upon his homecoming after the First World War , which the artist had spent in London, he contacted the printer Havermans where he had left the unsold copies of this book, published just before the war. Tijtgat was severely disappointed to discover that many of the unsold copies where damaged and had become worthless due to bad stocking conditions.
