The classics professor is lauded for his moral clarity and deft defense of the university community through ordeals such as the communist witch-hunt. The Grabhorn Press was one of the most important letterpress printers in the Bay Area and this volume displays the good taste and skills for which it was famous. Section headings and colophon printed in black and gray. Dust jacket now preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve.

In 1931, Parsons was one of the inaugural faculty members in the Dept. of Sociology at Harvard. Gordon W. Allport is known as one of the founding figures of personality psychology, and along with Harry Murray were faculty in the Psychology Dept. at Harvard. Robert R. Sears was head of the Psychology Dept. at Stanford University, Samuel Stouffer a Professor of Sociology at Harvard, and Clyde Kluckhorn a Professor of Anthropology at Harvard.
