Paperback. Condizione: Like New. In an age when Baptist identity is often diluted or debated, this compelling collection of 26 essays answers the vital question: Why be a Baptist?Taking a clear, doctrine-oriented, and confessional approach, the contributors root Baptist convictions firmly in Scripture and the historic Christian faith rather than mere tradition, culture, or personal experience. Readers will find thoughtful, Scripture-saturated testimonies that explore the heart of Baptist distinctives?believer?s baptism, regenerate church membership, congregational autonomy, religious liberty, the authority of Scripture, and the priority of the gospel.Voices range from historic Baptist figures such as Isaac Backus, Ann Judson, and F.H. Kerfoot to contemporary leaders and theologians including R. Albert Mohler Jr., Paige Patterson, Mark Dever, Wayne Grudem, Carl F.H. Henry, Jimmy Draper, and many others. The result is a rich, multi-generational witness that both encourages longtime Baptists and challenges a new generation to understand and embrace their theological heritage with conviction.Physical details:Glossy illustrated paper covers with title on front and spine. xxviii + 257 pages.Condition: Very clean and well-kept copy. Only very light shelf wear. Pages are crisp, clean, and unmarked. Binding and text block are square and tight.Full refund if not satisfied.…

Welty joined the Beloit College, Wisconsin, biology department in 1934. After a few years, he became disappointed in the lack of a current biology text on birds, so took on the job of research and wrote a book himself. Titled Life of Birds, it became the most widely used college textbook on ornithology in the United States and went through several revisions. At their rural home in Turtle Township, Wisconsin, the Weltys established a wildlife refuge which was used as a learning center for students. They traveled widely and their home became a place to entertain faculty and friends. In all of his pursuits, Carl found a willing and competent helper in his wife Susan, herself an author of several books. Welty had just finished work on a fourth edition of Life of Birds when he died on May 29, 1986. -- Excerpted from "Five to be Inducted into Beloit Hall of Fame," Beloit Daily News, Sept. 17, 1991. ; VG. That tradition is vividly portrayed in Gardens of Georgia, commissioned by the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., to commemorate its sixtieth anniversary and to celebrate the heritage and beauty of Georgia's gardens. As noted by Georgia founder James Oglethorpe in 1732, Georgia has a happy climate. From the broad-shouldered mountains of the Blue Ridge, through the red clay of the rolling piedmont, across the sprawling piney coastal plain, and on to the subtropical islands on the Atlantic, Georgia is blessed with four regions of gardening opportunities, distinctly defined by differences in elevation, climate, soil, and natural vegetation.Writer William Mitchell and photographer Richard Moore have portrayed the wonders of gardens historic and contemporary, public and private, and urban, suburban, and rural from each of these regions. Whether illustrating overall gardenscapes or capturing intimate vignettes and individual blossoms, Richard Moore's photographs have a depth of color and clarity of detail that immerse the reader into a world of delightful splendor. The text by Willaim Mitchell not only describes the settings as they are today, but also spins a rich background of history in the context of the botanical Eden observed by early explorers. The richest legacy of each generation is to preserve and protect an always vulnerable natural environment and help nature bring forth its green and glowing cycles of rebirth. Gardens of Georgia celebrates that legacy, sharing the ongoing dream of paradise--a new Eden--whether it is in a grand formal garden from an earlier era or a small plot of perennials in a Georgia yard. ; FINE/FINE.
