For many years he served as artistic director for Issey Miyake's exhibitions, installations, and fashion shows, developing a groundbreaking multidisciplinary approach to visual performance that fused contemporary staging with the spatial and spiritual traditions of Japanese theatre, mask, and costume design. His work with Miyake helped redefine the fashion show as a fully staged multimedia environment, reinforcing Miyake's vision of clothing as "architecture for the body."
