paperback. Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition. Publication: Liverpool, Tony Bolland, 2006 Formatting: 8vo. Condition Report: Near Fine. The yellow pictorial wrappers remain exceptionally bright and vivid, entirely free from the fading or toning that commonly affects this colourway. The edges are crisp and the corners remain remarkably sharp with no evidence of bumping or shelf-wear. The spine is completely uncreased and the binding is remarkably tight, suggesting the volume is unread. Internally, the text block is square, and the pages are uniformly bright, clean, and completely devoid of foxing, thumbing, or handling marks. A superior, highly presentable copy. Catalogue Note: This is a first edition of Tony Bolland's self-published, first-hand account of the Liverpool music scene. The present copy is significantly elevated by an original, dated presentation inscription from the author in blue ink to the front preliminary leaf ("To Frances / [Signature] / 24th September 2008"). Self-published regional histories of this nature typically suffer from extremely low print runs and poor survival rates. While occasionally held in local municipal archives (such as Sefton Libraries), copies of this work are functionally absent from the open market. The text is heavily illustrated with reproduced photographs, local advertisements, and archival ephemera, including a facsimile of a 1974 job offer letter on Orbit Trust Co. stationery, making this signed example a scarce primary resource for collectors of Merseybeat and regional British music history. Plug Inn: The Book (The Forgotten Years) offers an immersive, insiderâs perspective on the vibrant and chaotic Merseyside music scene of the 1970s. Authored by musician and former shop manager Tony Bolland, the narrative is anchored around the legendary Plug Inn instrument shop in Liverpool, a crucial daily hub where local bands, aspiring artists, and established touring acts converged to talk, trade, and form the foundations of the city's post-Beatles musical identity. Extensively illustrated with a collage of personal photographs, archival documents, and reproduced memorabilia, the book captures the grassroots, unpolished essence of a thriving creative community before the onset of modern commercialisation. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Liverpool 1946, post war and swinging. The Rialto theatre is a hotbed of the Big Band Swing scene, with bands playing most nights to full crowds of youngsters looking to forget the drudgery of everyday life, rations and the ruins of the blitz. The Downswing Seven are The Rialto's house band who are in the need of a new singer, much to the annoyance of George Hogg, the drummer. His disability had prevented him from seeing active service during the war, and now it's preventing him from fulfilling his dream of fronting the band as the lead male vocal. Are somethings worth killing for? George certainly thinks so. In The Mood for Murder is a period thriller, set against the backdrop of war time Liverpool.
