Twelve-page paper on memory and pilot error by a Stamford, Connecticut physician, issued through Tony LeVier's Safe Action in Flight Emergencies, the non-profit the former Lockheed chief test pilot (first flights of the P-80, F-104, and U-2) founded after his 1974 retirement to train civilian pilots in emergency handling; LeVier's foreword says Crane presented him the paper in October 1982. Crane separates brain, mind, and memory, walks through sensory, short-term, and long-term memory with a 707 crew's forgotten flap setting as the case study, gives Jerome Berlin's five hazardous thought patterns from Embry-Riddle (anti-authority, invulnerability, impulsivity, macho, out-control) with a family-fatal Thanksgiving flight as the example, types jet-lag flights into four classes, and covers the GGTP blood test for hidden alcoholism, the age-60 rule, and early dementia. There is a light tear at the middle of the lower edge of the front dust jacket as well as wear and tear at some outer edges. Not price-clipped! Illustrated with sixteen pages of halftones. Spine of dust jacket has some sun exposure. Back page of book has a clipping from Air Force magazine in February 1985 about Lt. Col. Don Rodewald, USAF (Ret.) first paraplegic to fly around the world. All in all, a quite scarce work particularly with such a fine inscription.
