Blue cloth boards in nice shape, with sharp corners. A few tiny spots on top edge of textblock. No marks or writing of prior ownership. Jacket has some crimping and creasing along edges, but no chips or tears. A. Hays Town has been called the "Premier Architect of the South" and had a profound impact on the residential architecture of Louisiana. Oversized oblong. 211 pages, followed by a brief Index.

Navy cloth over boards with silver-debossed particulars to spine and front board. Small light dampstain to fore edge of pages throughout; otherwise, illustrations are clean and bright. Text block has soiling to lower edge, dampstain to fore edge, and a few spots of light scattered foxing to top edge. Previous library slip attached to rear pastedown. Boards are clean with light sunning to top edge and lower edge and previous library sticker torn at end of spine. Corners bumped. Binding is tight and square. Dust jacket is bright with creasing to edges, corners and ends of spine. Soiling to rear cover and spine, chipping to headcap, and square cut out to tail of spine with tape repair likely from previous library sticker; top corner cut at front flap.

Hardcover in original binding and dust jacket. SIGNED and briefly inscribed by A. Hays Town on seond title page. A First Printing of 5000 The dust jacked inner flaps state: "A. Hays Town has designed more than 1000 buildings including schools, churches, commercial buildings, courthouses, banks, offices and residences during his career. .during the thirties, Town was appointed director of the American Historical Building Survey for the state of Mississippi. He commented that the measuring and recording of the historical buildings aided him greatly in his future application of design. Moving back to Louisiana in 1939, after receiving national and international fame for his work., Town started his own architectural firm in Baton Rouge. He continued to have a varied practice encompassing mostly commercial and public buildings.Eventually he designed a home for a friend and liked it so well that he began to concentrate on residential design, which seemed 'a more satisfactory outlet' for his talents. Town has received many honors and rewards during his career, including the Natchez Preservation Award.and the Arthur Ross Award from the National Academy of Design in New York. His works have been published in Life, The New Yorker, Southern Living, Southern Accents, and most major architectural magazines in America and Europe. This book, which represents volume one, is a collection of 106 preliminary sketches of some of the buildings designed by Mr. Town since the '60. On the page opposite the sketch, the name of the person who commissioned the house will be listed along with the location and date designed." "Book Design by A.
