Vol 1 with engraved frontis opposite lightly soiled 'Life'. pp viii, 380. Vol 2 Pp 352. Vol 3 Pp 362 + (1). Page 329 of second vol has a 5 cm tear without loss.

Vol 3 part 2 - [ii], 273-399, [11] pages + 153 plates. I make the total of plates 423 + the frontispiece to vol 1. It is difficult to be sure as some of the plates are numbered in sequence, others not numbered and some numbered according to the paragraphs in the text to which they refer and not in a continuous sequence. All in all very confusing. Page numbers cxliii and cxliv in volume 1 are duplicated. Text is complete. In old leather boards with replacement modern spines, but retaining the old lettering labels. Plates are a bit more spotted and stained than the pages. Some plates detached. A heavy set of 4 volumes.

Bindings Worn, Mostly On Spine, With Upper And Lower Edges Worn Away; Paper Covered Boards Once Had Calf Tips Which Are Now Lacking. Boards Worn On Edges But Most Of Paper Is Still Present. No Names Or Marks Or Bookplates. This Edition With The New Material Is Quite Scarce, Worldcat Reporting Only Three Institutional Copies. Friedrich Freiherr Von Der Trenck (1726 -1794) Was A Prussian Officer, Adventurer, And Author. By The Order Of Austria, Von Der Trenck Was Sent As An Observer Of The Events Of The French Revolution To Paris, Where He Was Accused As A Spy And Executed By The Guillotine On 25 July 1794, Two Days Before The Fall Of Robespierre And The End Of The Terror.

No Jacket. 3rd Edition, Full Leather, covers and spine detached from text block, wear to covers and spine, corners bumped and worn, boards showing, surface of leather worn on edges and corners, spine has large piece of sticky back plastic holding the covers on and together, starting to come away at edges, another piece has been used to reinforce spine join with back cover, rip at top of spine join with back cover 7cm but remainder still attached, internally in reasonable condition, majority of pages crisp and clear but some wear to edges and corners, a few small rips on edges, some light scattered foxing throughout, binding a little loose throughout, a few places more so, most noticeable between pages 418 and 422 and the plates in between, last two pages (blank) ripped in half horizontally through center.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: No Dust Jacket. A wonderful historical treasure. Although this is Part I of the History of the Seven Years, War, it is Vol II of the posthumous works of Frederick (spelled Frederic here) II, King of Prussia. The book is 8 " by 5 1/4", weighs a hair over 1 lb., and is bound in full leather, The binding looks a bit worn , especially the top of the spine, but it is sound. The book interior has a small bit of foxing, not enough to be bothersome, and occasional stains, nothing major. The pages have a built-in wave, not the result of water damage (for which I see no evidence), but perhaps caused by some sort of pressure, or perhaps by the paper itself puckering a little as it dried out in the manufacturing process. A large number of pages are spotlessly clean. You will enjoy the look and feel of this book, although the binding could certainly use repair. Scanned images on request.

Octavo, 3 volumes, 298pp., 300pp., 292pp. A crisp, clean, unsophisticated set, bound in full contemporary light brown sheep, with red morocco spine labels. Extremities a little dry, and some minor wear to corners, but a nice, appealing set, near fine. Bound without half-titles or advertisements. The debut novel by this prolific Swiss novelist, who wrote in French (and who also translated the first French editions of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" and "Persuasion"). Stated "Second Edition" on each title page. We are unsure if this means that the translation was produced from the second Swiss edition, or if this is the second English edition.

Leather. Condizione: Very Good Indeed. None (illustratore). An English translation of this instructional tale from Madame de Genlis. With engraved frontispiece and additional title page. Madame de Genlis was and is best known for her children's works. In Britain, many readers who were sceptical of French philosophy in general, welcomed her books because they presented many of Rousseau's methods while at the same time attacking his principles. Complete in two volumes. Rebound in half-calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, smart, with only some slight rubbing. Internally, firmly bound. Bookplate to front pastedown. Pages are bright, and generally clean, though with some occasional spotting. Very Good Indeed. book.
