Trade Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. First Harper Paperback. 466 Pages. A knight in the Holy Land. A woman in the frozen north. A war that kept them apart. Among the last bastion of God's holy warriors determined to save Jerusalem from the Muslims, Arn Magnusson of the Knights Templar is renowned as a man of compassion, strength, and faith, even among the enemy Saracens-Saladin and his Muslim followers. Yet, neither time nor distance can lessen Arn's pain of separation from his beloved Cecilia; confined to a cloister back home in western Gotaland, his betrothed, the mother of their newborn son, is a pawn in a war between clans vying for control of the crown. Arn and Saladin, an unlikely friendship is forged that will alter the course of the Templar knight's life, and the history of Jerusalem itself.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition. A clean, tight copy, with no markings and no signs of use. The only condition problem for the book itself is a strip of light tanning on the endpapers front and back caused by proximity to the jacket flaps. The jacket is a bit worn, with a chip at the top front and worn spots elsewhere. However the cover art is intact, and a mylar Brodart cover now protects it. The delightful illustrations will warm the dog-lover's heart.

Wraps. Condizione: Good. Savina Fornsater (illustratore). 56, [4] pages. Illustrations. Glossary. Bibliography. Appendices. Swedish Physicians against Nuclear Weapons has worked for many years to promote the idea of a nuclear weapons ban in Sweden. We have strengthened the support within civil society and the public but also debated and argued for the ban in parliament, with civil servants and other influential people. We have arranged both open hearings and seminars, closed round tables, brought the topic up in op-eds, on social media, in blogs and tried to make media interested in the topic. Our focus in Sweden in the time ahead will be to keep the pressure and excitement of the treaty up. There will be an investigation of the implications of the treaty for Sweden and we will use this time to analyse and debate the different strengths and critics of the treaty. Among the topics and contributors are: Nuclear Weapons, Weapons Tests, SIPRI, Nuclear Winter, Henning Rodye, Nuclear Weapons Production, Anthony Robbins, Nuclear Proliferation, Johan Swahn, Accidental Nuclear War, Marta Cullberg, Arms Control Agreements, Ragnhidl Hellgren, Weapon Effects, Per Kageson, Medical Effects of Nuclear Detonations, Gosta Arturson, Nuclear Education, Alexandra Bergstrom, Public Opinion. Hardcover in decorative cloth, 223 pages, illustrated throughout with colour photos, thick glossy paper, gold endpapers, NOT ex-library. In a sturdy decorative slipcase; issued without a dust jacket. Weight 880g. -- Moderate internal tearing along the gutter of the front board; binding remains secure and stable. Else minor wear, book is clean and bright with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps. -- The royal domain of Drottningholm is a world heritage site of the highest order, with its well-preserved palace and extensive parkland, its unique theatre and charming Chinese Pavilion. But it is also, and always has been, a place that queens and kings, princesses and princes through the ages have called home. Princess Christina has loved Drottningholm for a very long time. She has spent Christmas there every year since her childhood and has often been a guest on official and unofficial occasions. Its history, settings and personalities, especially the strong women who have made their mark there, have always fascinated her. In this lavishly illustrated volume she uses individual dates in history as her starting point for bringing royal figures, rooms, details and memories to life. She writes of the young widow Hedvig Eleonora, who initiated the grand construction project, of dance performances in the historic theatre, of her grandfather Gustaf VI Adolf's plans for the gardens and some unusual Christmas fare, of playing in the snow with her brother and sisters in the palace park, whispering games in the Chinese Pavilion, her wedding waltz with her husband Tord Magnuson in Karl X Gustav's Gallery and much, much more. The text has been written in collaboration with journalist Carl Otto Werkelid, formerly arts editor of Svenska Dagbladet and cultural counsellor at the Swedish Embassy in London. The beautiful picture material is the work of one of Sweden's best-known photographers, Ralf Turander.

Condizione: Fine. Saturday March 1, 1975., 1975. Fine. - A densely penned letter penned in blue ink on both sides of his personal 4 inch high by 6 inch wide card stock embossed in blind at the top. The Swedish-born American actor and translator Arvid Paulson apologizes for not writing sooner to City Center director Jean Dalrymple, "I became ill arriving in Helsingborg, and the day after arrival in Stockholm - during a violent snowstorm with snow up to the knee - fell down a precipice and injured my leg severely." He goes on to describe the "lovely roomy apartment" he is confined to in the interim and then requests "I wonder whether you are on any committee distributing grants, Jean? If you are and if the group at Huntington (which several years ago gave 30 performances of Hedda Gabler from my translation) should request a grant, it ought not be given until they pay me $400 that they owe me. Our agreement - made over the telephone with Richard Jamieson, the director - was originally for $25 a performance, but when they pleaded insufficient income when the presentation was over, I told them that I would accept $400." Signed "Arvid". Jean Dalrymple has underlined the date and the word "Huntington" and circled the amount in red felt. Fine. The Swedish-born American actor Arvid Paulson (1875-1977) was a translator of the works of August Strindberg. Some of his correspondence and papers as well as his translations of Strindberg are in the New York Public Library's Theatre Collection. There is also material in the collection relating to a proposed exhibit on Strindberg and Ibsen as well as a portion of his unfinished script for a musical about European Jews during the Second World War. The recipient, Jean Dalrymple (1902-1998) was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville, appearing with James Cagney and Carey Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing, the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski, Mary Martin, Jos Iturbi, Andre Kostalanetz, Nathan Milstein, and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943, serving as a board member and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951, Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder, commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world.

2 volumes. First edition in English. With half-titles. Tall 8vo, in contemporary full mottled calf, the spines with simple gilt ruled raised bands, buff gilt trimmed and lettered labels and gilt volume numbers. The board edges gilt tooled, page edges speckled in red. xi, [errata], 445; iv, 394, [10] pp. A very fine set, beautifully preserved, the text is fresh and clean with little evidence of use, some very light cosmetic wear to the joints but the hinges firm and strong. FIRST EDITION, QUITE SCARCE AND AN EXCELLENT COPY OF NUGENT'S TRANSLATION OF GROSLEY'S TRAVELS. Although it is stated on the title-page that the authors were Swedish, in fact the author was Pierre Jean Grosley, the prolific French writer known for his erudition and insights. His "Observations on Italy" (originally published in French in 1764) is his most important work. Along with being an excellent account of Italy, Grosley also demonstrates within it through his descriptions of his countrymen in Italy, many foibles and vanities which are part of the French character. It is suggested by Nugent that by claiming the authors to be anonymous travelers from Swedish, the French public would accept the this criticism more easily than if it came from a Frenchman. It has also been suggested that as a travel narrative it would be considered of greater value if the travelers were from somewhere farther away. Sections within the book relative to the article of Venice, and the Sacred panegiric of the seraphic father Saint Francis were by Francesco da S. Augustino Macedo and had originally been printed in Padua. There is also a comparative history of Italian and French music; an essay which "fell into my hands" according to the "Editor." The book is decidedly scarce, we can find no other copies currently available in the marketplace and there are no records of copies appearing at auction for at least 30 years and OCLC lists fewer than 40 copies in institutional holdings.
