Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 12mo. vi(4)11-320p. Blue cloth with letters in blue set on a lighter shade of blue on the front cover and the spine. Wear to extremities with a couple of corners just rubbed through, top and bottom of spine starting to fray, covers very lightly soiled, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket Shepard Traube [1907-1983] was a theatrical director and producer for more than 40 years and a founder and first president of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. Mr. Traube's theatrical career included producing and directing ''Angel Street,'' one of Broadway's longest running plays, in the early 1940's. In 1931 he directed and produced ''No More Frontiers'' for Broadway. But his first productions to win crtical acclaim were ''Precedent'' at the Provincetown Theater in 1932 and a Broadway entry, ''A Thousand Summers,'' the same year, which was co-produced with Arch Selwyn and starred Jane Cowl, Franchot Tone, Osgood Perkins and Josephine Hull. In 1938, he wrote a novel, ''Glory Road,'' based on observations in Hollywood. He was also the author of ''So You Want to Go Into the Theater,'' published by Little Brown.

Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. (no dust jacket) [ex-library book with minimal interior markings (library stamp on front pastedown and copyright page, pencilled call number on copyright page) but a big white call number label glued to spine; some dust-soiling to top edge, minor fraying at spine ends, generally a tight solid copy]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author, in the year of publication. Much better known as a Broadway producer/director, active from the 1930's through the 1970's, Traube spent time intermittently in Hollywood, although his handful of credits are all subsequent to the publication of this book, which would seem to contradict bibliographer Anthony Slide's claim that "his years in Hollywood led to the writing" of the novel. The story purports to present "the whole throbbing life of America in the last generation" through the story of "the rise of a young immigrant of vision to a dominant position in the film industry." The protagonist, Karl Lustig, a German Jew, seems to be an amalgam of several notable early film moguls; perhaps a close reading would indicate just who the primary model was. Signed by Author NOISBN.
