Der amerikanische Countrymusiker, Songwriter und Schauspieler (1917-1983) übernahm die vornemlich in der schwarzen Blues- und Ragtimemusik verbreitete Gitarrentechnik des Fingerpicking und brachte sie, später als Travis-Picking bekannt, in die Countrymusic ein. Seine ersten Platten erschienen in den späten 1930er-Jahren, richtig bekannt wurde er aber erst nach seinem Militärdienst, als er 1946 für Capitol mehrere erfolgreiche Singles aufnahm und gleichzeitig kleine Filmrollen erhielt.
