Couverture rigide. Condizione: Comme neuf. Edition originale. Paris 2000. 1 Volume/1. -- Comme Neuf Reliure éditeur cartonnée illustrée. Format in-4°( 27,9 x 22,9 cm )( 1810 gr ). Hardcover: Very Good, 28 x 23 cm, 323 pp., French, 1st Edition, illustrations, book condition: As New Augustin Dupré was one of the most important French medallists and engravers of all time. In 1791, amidst the French Revolution, he was appointed Engraver General of the Coins of France. He was given the monumental task of replacing the old royal currencies with a completely new visual system that reflected the values of the Republic and later the new decimal system (the French franc). His most famous works The Hercules group (L'Hercule): A design in which Hercules unites Liberty (Liberté) and Equality (Égalité). This motif reappeared well into the 20th century on French silver coins (such as the 50 franc pieces). The Genius of France (Le Génie): An angel writing the French constitution on a tablet. This design was later used, among other things, on the gold 20 franc pieces ("Napoleons"). Libertas Americana (1783): A world-famous medal, struck in honor of the American War of Independence at the request of Benjamin Franklin. The design (with the flowing hair of liberty) served as a model for the very first official coins of the United States. The Musée Carnavalet preserves a unique ensemble of Dupré's legacy. The great advantage of this 328-page book is that it not only shows the final coins but also reveals his creative process through: - Original design drawings and sketches in ink and pencil. - Models in wax, clay, and plaster with which he tested reliefs. - Original stamps (poinçons), molds, and rare trial strikes in tin [This description may have been translated by AI.].…
