Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: Vegetable production in Nigeria plays an important role in food sufficiency, employment generation and poverty reduction. This research investigated the production and marketing efficiency of waterleaf (Talinum triangulare) at the farm level in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.Data were obtained from 100 randomly-selected waterleaf producers and analyzed using descriptive statistics, gross margin and regression analysis. The results revealed that majority of them were female (79%), aged 41-46 years (40%), married (42%), moderately educated, SSCE (31%), family size of 3-4 persons (27%), farming experience of 1-3 years (29%), owning about 1 - 2ha- of farmland (46%). Also, 35% sourced capital form personal savings, 26% invest N2, 000 N5, 000 in waterleaf production, 73% depends on previous farm produce` for planting materials, 51% did not belong to any cooperative group, 39% met with Agricultural Extension officers once. The average revenue was N450, 000.00/ha-1, while total cost was N145, 050/ha-1with labour (53.76%) being the highest. The total variable cost was 64.1%; while the fixed cost was 35.9 %. The enterprise had an average net income of N304, 950.00/ha with an average rate of return of 3.1. Marketing efficiency was higher in Channels-I (10.0) and II (4.50). Channel-III (3.42) was found to be less efficient. The regression result of R2 ¿ 0.85 implies that 85% of the variability in output was explained by the combined effect of the independent variables. Coefficient of education level and capital were positive and significant at 5% level, household size was positive and significant at 1% level. Major constraints were: scarcity of water during dry seasons, high cost of manure, lack of access to credit, bad road network, poor marketing prices, and poor extension contacts. There is the need to encourage them to produce on medium scales so as to further increase their productivity and efficiency levels, which may probably result in food sufficiency and in the crop¿s exportation.…

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2015 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , course: Business Administration, language: English, abstract: Power Holding Company of Nigeria Limited (PHCN), a public enterprise was established, financed and managed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The paper utilized both primary and secondary sources to analyzed the effect of privatization and commercialization of PHCN on service delivery to electricity customers in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The study engaged one hundred and fifty-four (154) respondents randomly-selected from the five departments of PHCN, Uyo. The findings revealed that PHCN has to contend with internal and external externalities and constraints such as: poor funding of the enterprise, corruption, excessive control by the Federal Government, vandalization of its equipment by hoodlums, fraud, shady dealings, poor maintenance, damage to electricity infrastructure by windstorms and erosion, debts owed it and irregular rainfall. Government should examine and select the competent professionals as Public-Private Partners (PPP) and not people/enterprises with questionable character to handle commercialized and privatized Government enterprises . Capturing the confidence of labour Unions, building more power plants, staff training and motivation, monitoring of the privatization processes, transparency and accountability will check corruption, Government interference and recruitmentby patronage. The paper concluded that electricity is the bedrock of socio-economic development of any nation, hence priority must be set for its full privatization and commercialization as it did to the national telecommunication carrier, NITEL, so than Nigerians and Nigeria can grow and develop like other nations such as Malaysia, Indonesia and India, which have almost same characteristics as Nigeria. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , course: Management Sciences, language: English, abstract: This study examined the impact of strategic management on SMEs performance in South-east Nigeria. A survey of 398 respondents were randomly selected from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that registered with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States were used for the study. Well-structured questionnaire was use for collection of data from respondents. Hypotheses were formulated and data analysis was performed with the using Frequencies, Percentages, and Regression Analysis.Result reveals that majority of respondents are male (57%), married (69%), with Secondary education (45%), with household size of 6-10 Persons (45%), with SME experience between 6 ¿ 10 years (35.68%). Majority of enterprises in the study area were small ¿sized businesses (51.5%), providing services (65%), with fixed assets in buildings/factories including machinery/equipment worth N2 ¿ 5 million (26%), current asset base of cash/draft at Banks and inventory/raw materials worth N2 ¿ 5 million (31%), with human capital asset (number of employees) of 1 ¿ 5 workers (51.5%) and number of branches (88%). About 96.5% did not apply any of the management strategy practices in their operations. Details of the results on the effects of strategic management practices on SMEs¿ Performance further showed an average mean of 4.19. The R2 of 74% of the variation in the dependent variable ¿employee training and job satisfaction is caused by the explanatory variable ¿Planning and Organizational Structure, with a probability value (t-cal = 34.014); environmental analysis strategy and resource allocation on market share (92%) with t-cal (66.76), implementation strategy and Customer Satisfaction (99%) t-cal = (165.015). The R2 of .860, about 84% of the variation in the dependent variable, Sales Revenue/Profitability by evaluation strategy with regression result, (t-cal = 49.496) indicate a positive effect. Based on the findings, the study concluded that the strategic planning process has not been fully implemented by SMEs operators in the South-east Region of Nigeria. The study therefore recommends that SMEs operators/managers should be motivated to align their performance to the planned goals in their strategic plan. If these elements are consciously integrated into SME business plans and judiciously implemented, there would be a stimulating effect on the overall performance of these enterprises; thus triggering growth, profit and sustainability.…

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2015 in the subject Biology - Ecology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike), course: Pest Management and Control, language: English, abstract: Neem leaf extract from plant specie, Azadirachta indica (A. Juss) was investigated for efficacy and economics in the control and management of insect pests at the Students' Experimental and Research Farm of Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu, Ebonyi State, Nigeria in 2015.The results revealed that the frequency of grasshopper as the most prevalent insect pest was (49.06%), while white fly was the least (6.6%). The most prevalent insect pest that attacked cucumber was the spotted Cucumber beetle, (43.95%), while aphid was the least. The treatment solution, Deltamethrin at 10 ml/litre and 20 ml/li were highly phytotoxic, killing some of the maize and cucumber plants; but at 5.0 ml/litre, the plants were not affected and insect population was reduced as in all other treatments. Infestation of the plant continued till the 56 days after planting (DAP) and the insect population was consistently low on plants treated with Neem extract from 21 DAP to 56 DAP. Infestation of untreated plants attained a peak at 41 DAP. Insect population on untreated plants was not significantly higher (P > 0.05) than those on treated plots at 21 DAP and 56 DAP, respectively. This was probably due to the treatment application, which did not start until 21 DAP. There was 81% reduction in leaf damage on plants treated with A. indica at 20 ml/litre, 80% reduction at 10 ml/litre and 72% at 5 ml/litre; while plants treated with Deltamethrin at 5 .0ml/litre gave 54%, at 3.75 ml/litre, 52% and at 2.5 ml/litre, 50%, reduction in leaf area damaged respectively. The cost of deltamethrin at N1, 150.00 per litre compared with the cost of preparing 500 grammes of pounded neem leaves soaked in 1.5 litres of distilled water at N200.00 only. The difference of N950.00 indicates that synthetic chemical pesticide is very costly and resource- poor farmers may not be able to afford them to control pests in their farms. Therefore, it is concluded that Azadirachta indica (A. Juss) (neem) extract can be a suitable alternative to synthetic pesticide for the management of crop pests, and since it is cheap, available and easy to prepare, it can save the farmer's production cost. If this simple technology is adopted by small scale farmers, it will improve the farmers¿ income, without harming the farmer, customers and consumers or disrupting the agro-ecosystem. …

56 pp. Englisch. …

Neuware -Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: Vegetable production in Nigeria plays an important role in food sufficiency, employment generation and poverty reduction. There is the need to encourage them to produce on medium scales so as to further increase their productivity and efficiency levels, which may probably result in food sufficiency and in the crop¿s exportation. 16 pp. Englisch.…

The research adopted a qualitative research method. The case study research strategy was considered appropriate for the study. Data was gathered through observation and interviews. Interviews were conducted with fifty-two respondents from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals and Steel Development, Federal Secretariat, Uyo and the Akwa Ibom State e-library, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The study revealed that the respondents claimed to have good knowledge of Gemstones occurrence and its economic importance in Nigeria. They have knowledge of digitization, are aware of the need for digitizing reports published about Gemstones in Nigeria, and that most of the collections are currently not being digitized. Respondents admitted that digitization would be highly beneficial to Government, the institutions that regulate mineral resources, corporate organizations and artisan miners but issues such as lack of funding, lack of digitization policy and lack of trained personnel are the major challenges facing the digitization of Gemstones in the country. The research deals with the contextual and local nature of digitization and brings to the fore the importance of digitizing the collections of Genmstones and its resources in Nigeria. Neuware -Academic Paper from the year 2015 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , course: Business Administration, language: English, abstract: Power Holding Company of Nigeria Limited (PHCN), a public enterprise was established, financed and managed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. A Private sector-driven economy is key to this development and government must create thisopportunity and environment in Nigeria, if it must grow and develop industrially, socially and economically. 64 pp. Englisch.…
