A gorgeous two-volume set containing 137 tales by the Brothers Grimm, a large proportion of which never appear in most collections, especially these, the "household tales,'' dealing with "death & the devil, fools, sluggards, wise folk, busy people, hidden heroes & heroines…, odd narratives, tall tales, animals, inanimates, moralities." Full-page, full-color illustrations by L. Corcos throughout the texts. Also contains an essay by noted fairy tale compiler Andrew Lang. Alphabetical list by title is appended. Both volumes are securely housed in sturdy green & brown patterned slipcases, which are virtually flawless! The large (7.25" x 10.25") hardcovers have yellow linen-covered boards with gilt picture of geese on front & lettering in a green oval title box on spine. Vol I is Near Fine, while Vol II is downgraded to VG due to a stain to the lower external fore edge which barely intrudes into that lower-outer margin of pages in rear. Aside for a scattering of foxing to exterior fore edge, the pages are creamy white & books are completely unmarked. Bindings tight & square, hinges secure, corners crisp. The protective slipcases have very slight rubbing & fading. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" image of books we don't actually have!
