November 1906 im schweizerischen Beromünster (Kanton Luzern) geboren und schloss 1938 in Freiburg mit der Dissertation 'Das physikalische Weltbild der frühen griechischen Dichtung' seine akademische Ausbildung ab. Das weitere Leben von J.V. Kopp ist geprägt von seiner Tätigkeit als Griechisch- und Lateinlehrer an der Kantonsschule in Luzern (1945-1962) und als Schriftsteller.
