You can see the fairly small loss on the front cover just adjacent to the middle edge (first photo). There's also at very small loss at the bottom edge of the spine, and a tiny loss on the rear cover just adjacent to the middle edge. Otherwise, there's only some slight wear at the edges. There is also a light pen jag crossing the 'V' in Valentine on the front cover. It's on the glassine jacket, not on the front cover of the book. The covers of the book look very good. The book is nicely square and the spine looks pretty straight. The inside cover, however, is pulled away from the edge of the textblock (it could easily be glued back into place, I'd rather let you do it). I can also see by looking at the juncture between the rear inside cover and rear end paper that there would also have been two thin string bindings in place between the front inside cover and front end paper that are no longer present. These bindings can be seen as well at the junctures between some of the pages. The binding between the rear inside cover and rear end paper is very good. However, I would note that there are instances throughout the book where there is a thin space at the juncture between the facing pages, and in several instances it is wider and in one case (between pages 32 and 33) the left side sits a little lower than the pages on the right side and the binding there would be detached were it not for the bottom few inches of the juncture. So while there are no detached pages, the binding is far from perfect and could become problematic (it did survive my many shuffling through the pages). Another thing to note is that there are a good number of instances of uncut pages, uncut at the top edge, including the title page. That implies that the pages are in quite unused condition and that appears to be the case. They are very clean and I'm not finding any conspicuous creasing. The pages facing the illustrations do have a reactive slight tanning reflective of the shape of the illustration. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. This book is fairly light, light enough to lower the overseas shipping cost down to approximately the 26 or 27 dollars, so you can ignore the quoted price that comes up when you purchase it, the price would be immediately lowered before the transaction is completed. In 1919 they were married with Cocteau and Satie as their only witnesses. Neither of Jean's parents consented to the marriage, perhaps contributing to its eventual demise.In March of 1926, Valentine attended one of the first Surrealist expositions where she met Paul Éluard. Their meeting sparked a friendship that would continue until his death in 1952. In 1927, after working as costume designer on the set of La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc, Valentine returned to Paris a full-fledged Surrealist; Jean Hugo, however, never embraced the Surrealist movement. In the years following their hurried nuptials, their tastes diverged leading to separation in 1929 and finally divorce in 1932.
