In 1988, undermined by marital and family problems, he looked for help from the church. The aid he received, however, was, besides the loss of his patrimony, the near destruction of his marriage and family. For the church, the lawyer lost homes, apartments, shops, and assets from the stock market. With dilapidated assets and without an alternative, Grigore accepted the invitation of the Universal Church to work as a lawyer. Three months later, this Romanian national took charge of their legal department in Rio de Janeiro. Soon he headed up the national legal department of the Universal Church, in São Paulo, during the period following the purchase of Record Television. He watched closely as illegal practices transpired, suggestions for buying a judge and sermons that did not fit with the conduct of Bishops and pastors. In disagreeing with the actions taken by the church, Grigore was fired. He decided to take legal action to recover his lost property.
