Late 19th century half-leather binding; tan calf spine with five raised bands and two slender gilt lettered black labels for author and title as well as gilt "1860" date at heel; slight surface abrasion to leather with light scuffing at ends; patterned paper boards slightly worn at corners. Gilt top edge; deckle fore-edge. Marbled endpapers; front pastedown has past owner's ("A.H.") personal bookplate with b/w illustration by "E. Valton 1860" (for French artist Edmond Eugene Valton, 1836-1910). Two new front flyleaves; new rear flyleaf. Original foxed blue paper front and rear covers still bound-in. [4], 1-68 pages. Some foxing to interior pages. Binding is firm. Specified on half-title: "Representee pour la premiere fois, a Paris, sur le theatre du Vaudeville, le 30 juillet 1860" [Performed for the first time, in Paris, at the Vaudeville theatre, on July 30, 1860].
