Een van de meest tot de verbeelding sprekende voorbeelden is het boek Utopia, de beschrijving van Thomas Mores hoogstpersoonlijke droomwereld: een ideale niet-bestaande eilandstaat. More publiceerde het boek in Leuven in 1516. Zijn werk… maakte furore. Utopia vormde het begin van een nieuw literair genre. In het kielzog van More zouden vele anderen - denkers ?n doeners - op zoek gaan naar hun ideale Andersland. De zoektocht gaat nog altijd door.Andersland toont de voorlopers en navolgers van Thomas More. Een rijke utopische traditie die aanlokkelijk of angstaanjagend is - en vaak beide tegelijk. Met bijdragen van Gregory Claeys, Erik De Bom, Lieven De Cauter, Thomas Decreus, Jozef Janssens, Marc Laureys, Piet Lombaerde, Christoph Pieper, Geert Roskam, Christophe Van Gerrewey en Toon van Houdt.Recensie(s)De utopie is eind vorige eeuw onder zware kritiek komen te liggen. Het is daarom opmerkelijk dat de laatste jaren sprake is van een herleving van het Andersland. Thomas More schreef vijfhonderd jaar geleden zijn beroemd geworden boek 'Utopia', uitgegeven in Leuven. De redacteuren van deze bundel over More en het utopisme zijn beiden werkzaam aan de Universiteit van Leuven. De goed leesbare bundel van twaalf essays is verdeeld in vier hoofddelen. In het eerste deel staan Thomas More en zijn boek centraal, het tweede deel zoekt voorlopers van More in de oudheid en de middeleeuwen. Het derde deel gaat in op de bonte verzameling navolgers van More die hun kritiek op hem verpakten in een eigen 'utopie'. Het laatste deel bespreekt de hedendaagse uitingen van utopisch denken, bijvoorbeeld in de architectuur. De bundel rond af met een lijst van ruim 1400 titels van utopische geschriften vanaf de zestiende eeuw.
