Adrien Varinard (Francia, 1824 - 1886) fue abogado y grafólogo, campo en el que ejerció como director de la revista La Graphologie. Contemporáneo a los fundadores de la grafología moderna francesa, mantuvo gran amistad con el considerado como padre de la misma, Jean Hippolyte Michon, hasta el punto de rendirle esta obra como homenaje póstumo. Además de este homenaje, Varinard publicó Cours de graphologie en sept leçons? donde explicaba de forma simplificada y sencilla, tanto el sistema como el método de Grafología de Michon, donde Teyssonnières (uno de los peritos intervinientes en el caso Dreyfus) plasmó el retrato de los dos. De la obra, más que destacar como biografía, pone de relieve el valor humano, capacidad de trabajo y versatilidad de Michon, además de sacar a la luz al "yo más terrenal" del abad con su carta personal a una amiga.
