BON ETAT, Roman "leger" sur l'evolution des moeurs dans les Annees Folles Né Belge (en 1876, à Tournai), Clément Vaulet dont Vautel constitue l'anagramme acquiert la nationalité française en 1897. L'année précédente, l'amour du journalisme l'a attiré à Paris où il débute au Charivari; il passe ensuite à La Liberté, an Gil Blas, à La Presse, collabore au Rire et à La Vie Illustrée. En 1908, il devient chroniqueur quotidien au Matin. La verve narquoise et le bon sens des Propos d'un Parisien, où il commente brièvement le fait du jour, lui valent une grande popularité. Il abandonne cette chronique en 1914 quand il est mobilisé. De 1918 à 1940 c'est au Journal qu'il donne un billet quotidien intitulé Mon Film, spirituel commentaire de l'actualité suivi par un nombreux public fervent. Esprit, clarté, bon sens se retrouvent chez le romancier. Parmi ses ouvrages, les plus connus sont Mon Curé chez les riches et Mon Curé chez les pauvres qui ont connu une merveilleuse fortune en librairie, à la scène et à l'écran.
