Facsimile imprint of a popular French Renaissa…nce verse composition originally published between c1534 and 1553 by Nicolas Buffet describing seven 'unsavoury' types, described in Naples as 'mals francais' but in France as 'mals de Naples'; they are an adventurer, a priest, a student, a blind man, a villager, a merchant and a braggart. The main poem is followed by four rondeaux and a ballade. The poem, taken from the rare original fascicule, is in gothic letter, with vignette on title of a scholar in his study. The piece was edited by Auguste Alexandre Veinant (d. 1859) was a noted Parisian scholar and collector of early texts, whose celebrated library was sold in 1855.
