Hendrik van Veldeke is genoegzaam bekend als de eerste met naam gekende dichter van ons taalgebied. Veel minder mensen weten dat hij ook een gevierd minnezanger was. Veldeke was in feite de allereerste minnezanger en werd erg geprezen door de generatie die na hem kwam. Van zijn oeuvre werden, naast teksten van zijn minneliederen, ook de Sint-Servaaslegende en de Ene de overgeleverd. Zijn muziek is helaas integraal verloren gegaan. Daarom was het voor Musica, Impulscentrum voor Muziek, een uitdaging om de muziek van Veldeke opnieuw tot klinken te brengen. In een onderzoekstraject van meer dan vijf jaar maakten de belangrijkste Veldeke-specialisten een balans op van het bestaande onderzoek. Op basis daarvan werd een zoektocht gestart naar de verloren gegane muziek. Internationale specialisten gingen, samen met een keur van jonge musici, op zoek naar de muziek zoals die bij Veldeke zou kunnen geklonken hebben. Orgelpunt van het project was de 30ste internationale Dag Oude Muziek op 30 juni 2013 in Alden Biesen. Achttien ensembles brachten de hele dag door muziek van Veldeke en zijn tijd, een heus huzarenstuk. De belangrijkste actoren in dit onderzoek schreven elk hun bevindingen neer in een essay. Deze werden gebundeld in het rijk ge llustreerde boek ?Hendrik van Veldeke en zijn muziek'. Zowel historie, kunsthistorie als taal en dichtkunst komen uitgebreid aan bod. De muziek van Veldeke krijgt een bijzondere plaats door de bijdrage van twee specialisten in de middeleeuwse muziek.
