(Vicaire II, 950-951). Jacques Vergier (1655-1720), poète et conteur, fréquenta les milieux littéraires après une carrière dans l'administration de la Marine. Ses oeuvres ne furent publiées qu'après sa mort tragique (il fut assassiné par la bande de Cartouche, rue du Bout-du-Monde.) Antoine Bauderon de Sénecé (1643-1737) fut le premier valet de chambre de la reine Marie-Thérèse. Il publia entre autres ouvrages une Lettre de Clément Marot touchant l'arrivée de Lully aux Champs-Elysées (1688), Epigrammes et satyres (1695) et une paraphrase des psaumes de David (1722). François-Auguston Paradis de Moncrif (1687-1770) fut poète, musicien et acteur. Académicien depuis 1733 (outre ses fonctions successives de secrétaire, lecteur, censeur royal et secrétaire général des postes), il est l'auteur de comédies et de ballets, de poésies et de chansons. Jean-Antoine du Cerceau (1670-1730) fut père jésuite et le précepteur du prince de Conti. Il mourut aussi briquement, tué accidentellement au fusil de chasse par un de ses élèves.Jean-Baptiste Willart de Grécourt (1683-1743) se fit connaitre par la vivacité de ses sermons, puis par les contes et les vers licencieux qu'il faisait circuler sous le manteau ou lisait dans des cercles choisis. Outre ses oeuvres de littérature poétique (Epitre à Chloé, Fêtes de l'amour et de l'hymen), il est l'auteur d'un Essai sur le luxe pour l'Encyclopédie, d'un Discours sur la Poésie et d'un pesant ouvrage de morale laïque inspiré de d'Holbach et d'Helvétius, Principes des moeurs chez toutes les nations ou Catéchisme universel. "Sec, spirituel, bien tourné, il avait du trait, quelque imagination, de l'élégance, de la raideur" Sainte-Beuve.Sébastien Roch Nicolas, dit Chamfort (1740-1794) est bien connu pour son esprit étincelant, capable de passion malgré une lucidité cynique. Auteur de pièces à succès, il est élu à l'Académie en 1781 et devient administrateur de la Bibliothèque nationale. Ses écrits polémiques lui valent d'être arrêté et il meurt des suites d'une tentative de suicide. Les Maximes qui lui assurent l'essentiel de sa postérité sont publiées après sa mort. Ses contes en vers furent publiés pour la première fois en 1788 par Cazin.Alexis Piron (1689-1773), esprit brillant, caustique, désintéressé, follement gai, composa de nombreuses pièces de tous les genres et fut au centre de nombreuses polémiques littéraires - il est l'auteur de centaines d'épigrammes griffant les poètes de son temps. "Le plus turbulent des poètes" (Jules Janin), "le sel et la gaité même" (Sainte-Beuve).Claude-Joseph Dorat (1734-1780) fut un auteur fécond de pièces et de poésies, toujours en quête du succès, frivole et sans illusion sur sa postérité ("tout ce qui plait n'est pas durable").
