Illustrated by 20 pages of black and white plates numbered in text and by text figures throughout. Decorated by title and contents pages vignettes. The Dadaist movement in art arose in Switzerland in 1916 among a group of artists and poets, as a reaction to the upheavals of the First World War. This well illustrated survey examines the history of Dadaism in the context of its time and the work of its practitioners, and includes chapters on existentialism, film and music. Following the plates are sections on chronology, a Dada dictionary and a bibliography. Edited by Austrian artist, Willy Verkauf (1917-94) and first published in Switzerland in 1957.
