Uit de bibliotheek van de kunstschilder Floris Verster (1861-1927), met zijn naam in potlood op de Franse titel. Daar staat ook, eveneens in potlood maar in een ander handschrift, 'Het Chineesche in Vermeer/ J.L.'. Behoorlijk wat onder- en aanstre…pingen en (soms uitgebreid) commentaar in de marge, waarschijnlijk van 'J.L.', e.g.: 'Volksdeuntjes bekoren dikwerf den actieve, een Bismarck'. Kan J.L. de Japanoloog Jan Lodewijk Pierson zijn, die ook allerlei doorwrocht werk over het Chinees schreef.

Etchings: 40 x 31 cm or 31 x 40 cm.[NL] Floris VERSTER (Leiden 1861 - 1927).Floris Verster kreeg als kind tekenlessen van onder andere George Breitner. Later volgde hij…zijn opleiding aan de Koninklijke Academie voor de Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag. Vooral zijn vroege werk behoort tot de stijl van de Haagse stijl. Ook werkte hij een tijd in Brussel waar hij kennis maakte met Jan Toorop en James Ensor, in deze periode werkte hij met ruwe penseelstreken en heftige kleuren. Later werd zijn werk veel verstilder en schilderde hij veel stillevens. Mevrouw Kröller-Müller kocht veel werk van Floris Vester aan, haar museum bezit nog steeds een uitgebreide verzameling van zijn werk. Zowel in 1961 als in 2012 hield de Lakenhal in Versters geboortestad Leiden een tentoonstelling over zijn werk.
