3pp., 12mo. In good condition. Plarr's entry in the Oxford English Dictionary does not note that he dealt in autographs, but the present item suggests that he was more than just a collector who dabbled. At the time of writing, and until his death, he was Librarian of the Royal College of Surgeons. The letter is addressed to 'H. T. Scott Esqre., M.D.' and begins: 'Dear Sir | It is long since you have heard from me. | I have just bought several autographs which you may care to know of -'. The authors that follow include Sir Benjamin Brodie ('the great surgeon'), Sir James Paget, Francis Palgrave, Joseph Wharton ('poet, Shakespearian scholar etc. (I think he was poet laureate, unless I am thinking of Thomas, his brother)'), 'King Leopold (the late) of Belgium', 'charming Sir W. MacCormac notes', Sir Michael Forster, Frederick Treves, 'MSS. of Victor Horsley', Sims Reeves. He also observes: 'The Arnolds should again be in request owing to the death lately of Mr. Thomas Arnold, some of whose notes you were so good as to discuss with me.' He concludes: 'Since our last correspondence I have bought two small interesting collections of old autos.'.
