Hardback. Condizione: New. A Shepherd's Life centres on Jenny Armstrong, born in 1903 at the farm of Fairliehope, who spent her life working as a shepherdess in the Pentland Hills. In a series of remarkable paintings made over twenty years and based on close observation, Victoria Crowe, one of Scotland's foremost painters, pays tribute to the life and work of this exceptional woman. In spite of their different ages and backgrounds, the two women came to value each other's company and it was through the shepherdess that the artist learned how to interpret the surrounding landscape. At the same time the paintings depict an ancient way of living that has been long in the decline and which, at the start of a new millennium, may be finally disappearing.…

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good Plus. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. 2001. 144pp. Full colour images. "Over the last thirty years Victoria Crowe, one of Scotland's leading painters, has established herself as a painter whose work is instantly recognizable. This book covers her full range - landscape, still lifes, portraits, self-portraits and interiors - but much of her work defies such precise categorization. She has been described as one of the most vital and original figurative painters currently at work in Scotland. An essay by art historian and critic Colin Bailey, sets her work in context. Then follows a chronological path through her life and work, told in her own highly individual words, but punctuated by the voices of critics. It concludes close in time to where it started, thus forming a cyclical link, a theme that runs as a constant thread throughout the work itself. This is a personal journey spanning over thirty years, in which life events are transmuted into painted images." Unclipped dust jacket in very good condition with a small closed tear to the top of the rear panel. Book has gilt titles to spine and upper board. Excellent condition with no inscriptions. PLEASE NOTE: Heavyish book so a little extra may be needed for shipping to non-UK customers. Victoria Crowe (illustratore).…
