Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Large-format collection of traditional English fairy tales adapted by Ann Macleod from text by Jan Vladislav and illustrated throughout by Czech artist Ota Janeček. The 164-page volume includes numerous full-page color plates as well as black-and-white and tw…o-color illustrations. Janeček's atmospheric, modernist artwork gives this edition a distinctive mid-century European character quite unlike more conventional fairy-tale collections. A comparable 1965 edition is likewise described as containing 164 pages and extensive color illustration. Condition: Publisher's cream cloth binding with gilt illustration of a crowned woman on the front board and gilt spine lettering. Cloth shows moderate age-toning and surface soiling, particularly along the spine and lower front corner, with scattered small marks and light wear at the spine ends and corners. Binding remains sound. Interior pages are generally clean with mild age-toning and occasional light spotting or handling marks. Former owner's pictorial bookplate, reading "Robert Zenty," is mounted on the front pastedown; a small penciled dealer price or inventory notation appears nearby. The original pictorial dust jacket shows general rubbing, scratching, and surface wear, with light creasing, small chips, and short tears along the edges and extremities. The jacket remains substantially complete, with strong color and an attractive front illustration. It is now protected in a removable clear mylar cover. Some bright white areas and reflections visible in the photographs are glare from the protective mylar rather than losses from the jacket itself. This edition is especially appealing for Ota Janeček's rich, sometimes dreamlike illustrations, including numerous full-page compositions in vivid color. It will interest collectors of vintage children's books, English folklore, Czech illustration, mid-century book design, and illustrated fairy tales. The Robert Zenty bookplate is attractive ownership evidence but does not appear to provide notable provenance or additional market value. Carefully packed and shipped with tracking. Domestic shipping by USPS Media Mail unless otherwise requested. International shipping is available at cost. Returns accepted in accordance with AbeBooks' return policy. SCI 1e. Janeček, Ota (illustratore).
