Weltkrieg, Note: 1,3, Universität Karlsruhe (TH), 11 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Rolle des Beamten und der Verwaltung in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus zählt zu den wenigen Bereichen, die in der Geschichtswissenschaft noch nicht umfassend aufgearbeitet wurden. Jedoch gehörte die Administration zu den Kriterien, die maßgeblich die Herrschaft Hitlers stabilisierten und gewährleisteten. Es stellt sich die Frage, wie sich die Machthaber die Loyalität der Beamten sicherten, sie respektive erzwangen. Dem Gesetz zur Wiederherstellung des deutschen Berufsbeamtentums kommt bei der Betrachtung dieser Frage eine gewichtige Bedeutung zu, da dieses das Instru-ment der Konstituierung der nationalsozialistischen Herrschaft im behördlichen Sinne darstellte. Diese Arbeit soll eine Übersicht über die wesentlichen Bestimmungen des Berufsbe-amtengesetzes geben, die Folgen für die betroffenen Personengruppen aufzeigen und versuchen den Inhalten des BBG eine Bewertung zu geben. Es konnte nur in sehr begrenzten Maße auf die einzelnen Paragraphen eingegangen werden, eine vollständige Analyse ist im Rahmen dieser Arbeit nicht zu leisten. Die wichtigsten Inhalte sind kurz aufgezeigt und werden in ihrer Wirkung beschrieben. Auf eine ausführliche Darstellung der Vorgeschichte des Beamtenapparats in der Weimarer Republik, sowie die Rolle des Deutschen Beamtengesetzes ab 1937 mußte ebenfalls verzichtet werden. Der Stand der Forschung hat sich seit den neunziger Jahren verbessert, da eine Viel-zahl der Akten durch die Öffnung der Archive im Osten Deutschlands zugänglich wurden. Wissenschaftlich erschlossen wurden die Bestände allerdings nur marginal. Die Forschung tendiert bislang zu Darstellungen, die das Beamtentum von Beginn seiner Entstehung bis zum heutigen Zeitraum dokumentieren und daher nicht explizit auf bestimmte Problemkomplexe eingehen können. Dahingehend sind die Werke Thieles und Hattenhauers zu nennen, welche die wichtigsten Entwicklungslinien andeuten, aber eher als Einstieg in die Thematik zu sehen sind. Als Standartwerke gelten die Arbeiten von Mommsen und Mühl Benninghaus , wobei letztere auf Mommsen aufbaut und ihn durch die veränderte Quellenlage ergänzt. …

Der zwischen Wissenschaft und Journalismus schwankende Grenzgänger Fest erreichte mit seinen Publikationen ein Millionenpublikum und war auf Grund seiner medialen Präsenz einer der meinungsbildenden 'Historiker' der Bundesrepublik. Die Spanne seiner Interessen und Neigungen war überaus vielfältig und somit auch seine Veröffentlichungen. So hat er eine Vielzahl von Werken zu den unterschiedlichsten Themen herausgebracht: Essays über Thomas und Heinrich Mann, ('Die unwissenden Magier'), in denen er den beiden Schriftstellern jeglichen politischen Sachverstand absprach, das Buch 'Im Gegenlicht', in dem er Eindrücke, Wahrnehmungen und Beschreibungen des südlichen Italien zusammenfasste oder seine Portraitskizzen von Weggefährten und Zeitgenossen wie Hannah Arendt, Sebastian Haffner, Ulrike Meinhof und anderen in den 'Begegnungen'. Die deutsche Öffentlichkeit begleitete er anfangs mit seinen Hörfunkbeiträgen beim RIAS historiographisch durch den Ersten Weltkrieg und die Weimarer Republik. Aus einer Art Vorstudie unter dem Titel 'Das Gesicht des Dritten Reiches' (1963) entstand dann Anfang der siebziger Jahre Fests grundlegende Hitler-Biographie mit der ihm eine Bilanz der Ursachen und Folgen der NS-Diktatur gelang. Hitler hatte er 'analytisch geröntgt' wie Frank Schirrmacher das einmal bezeichnete und den komplexen Gegenstand mit enormem Stilvermögen erzählbar und auf diese Weise auch rationalisierbar gemacht. 1973 trat Fest als Leiter des Kulturteils in das Gremium der Herausgeber der 'Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung' ein und verhalf dem Feuilleton zu neuer Blüte. Er engagierte Marcel Reich-Ranicki und konnte Romanciers wie Heinrich Böll oder Erich Fried als Autoren gewinnen. Als Herausgeber, politischer Feuilletonist und konservativer Intellektueller hat er publizistische und wissenschaftliche Debatten maßgeblich mitbestimmt und war so beispielsweise Mitte der achtziger Jahre im 2 'Historikerstreit' um die Bewertung der nationalsozialistischen Verbrechen engagiert, der im FAZ-Feuilleton seinen Ausgang nahm.…
