Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the origins and early years of the German Aid Society (Deutscher Unterstuetzungsbund), a fraternal benefit organization founded in 1892 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Driven by a desire to unite the German-American community and provide essential support during times of need, the organization offered its members financial assistance, social connections, and a sense of belonging in their adopted homeland. The author meticulously details the challenges faced by the organization in its formative years, including economic hardships, language barriers, and competition from established American fraternal societies. Despite these obstacles, the German Aid Society persevered, establishing numerous chapters throughout the United States and becoming a vital resource for German immigrants and their families. Through vivid descriptions of key figures, pivotal events, and the cultural context of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the book offers a compelling exploration of immigrant life, community building, and the enduring values of mutual aid and cultural heritage. By shedding light on this often-overlooked aspect of American history, the author reveals the significant contributions of German immigrants to the social fabric of the United States. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
