The essential thing, as he wrote, is to "know how the main personalities thought and reacted to events." This is what he tells us in this book. His account is detailed, yet dispassionate and objective. "Nothing is certain in war, when all is said and done," But in Manstein's record, at least, we can see clearly what forces were in action. In retrospect, perhaps his book takes on an even greater significance.

Seine verzweifelte Mutter wendet sich an einen Kinderpsychiater und offenbart, dass Mario mit seinem Vater im Regenwald verschwand. Wahrend der Vater nie wieder gesehen wurde, fand man Mario nach langer Suche in einer Wurgefeige, ohnmachtig und ohne Erinnerungen. Als Mario seine Mutter vom Psychiater abholen will, findet er sie im Koma, uberwaltigt von einem geheimnisvollen Fremden, dem ,Zeiter", der Menschen entschleunigt und sie zu Pflanzen macht. Mario erkennt, dass nur er sie retten kann. In Gestalt eines Fliegenpilzes wird er Zeuge einer geheimen Konferenz im grunen Netzwerk der Baume. Der weise Baum Yggdrasil steht dem Terroristenbaum Reginald gegenuber, der die Menschheit ausrotten mochte. Mario, unterstutzt von dem engagierten Madchen Rado und dem genialen Erfinder Lam-Pi-Jong, nimmt den Kampf gegen die terroristischen Baume auf. Ob es ihnen gelingt, das Ende der Menschheit zu verhindern, ist das zentrale Thema dieses Genres sprengenden Romans, der Science-Fiction, Fantasy und okologische Themen vereint und die Leser dazu aufruft, die Natur zu schatzen und zu schu.
