Hard Back. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Royce, W. Allan - Illustrations Editor (illustratore). Assumed First Edition. 606 Pages. The title is impressed on the Red boards with black quarter-spine and gold printing. There is the date "Rec 11 May 84" on the front endpaper which also is red. This reference tool turns a collection of National Geographics into a comprehensive encyclopedia and also presents the exciting story of the National Geographic Society in words and hundreds of pictures. Spanning issues from January 1947 through December 1983, the volume catalogs the more than 2,500 articles that have appeared during the period, making their diverse subject matter immediately available. The alphabetical listings at the heart of the Index include some 5,000 subject categories and more than 25,000 entries on nature, science, biography, history, and geography in its many forms. New features include listings for other Society publications and productions-including maps, books, and television programs. Entries are color-and symbol-coded to speed the user's search for the precise information desired. Additionally, word guides above entry columns make the search easier, as do printed alphabetical thumb tabs. Typography has been designed so that subject headings stand out as pages are scanned. Especially useful is the extensive cross-indexing designated by "See also" references. A prime resource for the many members who preserve their Geographics, this Index is indispensable to libraries, where newer Society members or their children may pursue researches for such purposes as school reports or increasing their general store of learning. In all, this volume lists the contents of 445 issues containing more than 47,000 color pictures and some 14 million words. It supersedes a' previous Index covering the years 1947 through 1976.
