Bunyan's classic was first published in 1678; six years after he was discharged from prison; where he wrote the text. Aside from the rare DJ, the book contains 14 beautiful etchings by W.M. Strang; who also illustrated the highly collectible Paradise Lost. All illustrations are present along with original tissue guards. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Blue cloth stamped in gilt. Gilt page edges on top. Front endpaper showcases a gift inscription dated 1931, in which the presenter recalls illustrator William Strang as "Billy" -the schoolmate of the presenter's mother. A neat inscription. Rear endpaper shows light toning. Original rare DJ with $5.00 price intact on flap. DJ shows shallow chipping along edges and corners. DJ shows closed tears along with a spot on front, and light soiling. An attractive DJ in any condition. VG/G.
