Nachdem er zuvor schon Zyklen…von Erinnerungsbildern nach alten Familienfotos und eigenen Kinderzeichnungen erarbeitet hatte, beginnt Baselitz 2005 damit, neue und andersartige Versionen von bereits vor Jahrzehnten entstandenen Bildern zu malen. Es entstehen die sogenannten Remix-Bilder sowie ganze Serien von Tuschezeichnungen mit den Köpfen von Edvard Munch, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff und Erich Heckel.
