Édition originale des prémisses de l'oeuvre de Léon Walras.Antoine-Auguste Walras (1801-1866), professeur et économiste, ancien condisciple d'Augustin Cournot, fut « l'initiateur » de son fils : « Je dois à mon père, Auguste Walras, les principes fondamentaux de ma doctrine économique et à Augustin Cournot celui de l'emploi du calcul des fonctions pour l'exposition de cette doctrine » (Léon Walras, Éléments d'économie politique pure, préface à la 4e éd.). La Théorie de la richesse sociale contient deux apports essentiels que Léon Walras devait reprendre et développer : la fondation de la valeur sur la rareté (« cause unique de la valeur ») et la distinction entre biens durables et biens fongibles, « capitaux et revenus », « distinction typiquement walrassienne ».
