Walt Gonske is an acclaimed American landscape impressionist painter who has spent over five decades capturing the vibrant light and diverse scenery of northern New Mexico. Born in Irvington, New Jersey, in 1942, he transitioned from a successful career in commercial illustration to become a fundamental pillar of the Southwest art community, most notably as a founding member of the modern Taos Six. The 1970s group was incredibly successful at bringing national collectors back to Northern New Mexico. Now in his 80s, Gonske remains one of the most respected living legends of the Taos art colony.
