For your consideration is the first volume of what was planned as a four-volume series sponsored by the National Rifle Association on Small Arms. The book is titled: Pistols & Revolvers the N.R.A. Book of Small Arms, by Walter H.B. Smith. This largish hard cover book (6 ½ x 9 ¼ inches, 638 pages) was published by the National Rifle Association of America, of Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the Military Service Publishing Company of Harrisburg, PA. The book is bound in dark maroon cloth covered boards with royal blue and gilt titles and decorations. The book is protected by a now battered dust jacket. This book is lavishly illustrated with a series of diagrammatic sketches of many of the weapons and another 300 identification photographs, each provided with detailed specifications and ballistic data. Condition: This book is in very good condition. Unfortunately, and typically, the same cannot be said for the dust jacket which is tattered and torn with a big chip missing. The hard covers are generally clean and bright, particularly the front cover. The covers, however, are a bit bumped, at corners and spine tips (please be sure to see the photos). Inside, there is an inked name & address of a former owner, on the front endpaper. The early and late pages, closest to the endpapers, are speckled with what I assume are cigarette smoke deposits, not too bad but there. These do not smell of cigarettes. The page edges have the same speckled soiling and appearance. Fortunately, these marks or deposits are rare in the interior pages and plates of the book which are generally clean and bright and attractive. The hinges are fully intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
