Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term biological diversity to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. Strachan (1903-1994) to British painter, engraver and art educator Geoffrey Rhoades (1898-1980). Strachan met Rhoades after the latter joined the faculty at Bishop's Stortford College, a boys' public school in Hertfordshire, where Strachan also taught. The two became good friends, as evidenced by their extensive correspondence. A former owner's blind stamp on the foxed front end paper is a tiny fault. The rest of the book is on high quality art paper, so there is no other foxing.
