He was an esteemed and successful Texas lawyer and he wrote his memoirs in 1914. He wrote very little of his law career, most of this book consists of his service the Confederate Army. He was good at scouting and ambushing Federals and was promoted all the way to Major. Walton originally wrote in pencil on legal paper.
