Lola the Bear, a coming-of-age tale filled with adventure, was Rideout?s final novel, published one year after his death. Additionally, this fairly obscure work, which features Lynd Ward?s illustrations, was published just one year before his now famous Gods? Man (1929), the first wordless novel in the United States, believed to be the precursor of the modern graphic novel.
