Two punched holes are in the left margin and do not affect text. Slight bump on fore-edge. A Fine copy. The first issue of The Lincoln Kinsman. The Lincoln Kinsman was a monthly publication about Abraham Lincoln and the Lincoln genealogy. Fifty-four issues were published in total. Louis Austin Warren (1885-1983) was a minister who spent his lifetime researching and writing about Abraham Lincoln and his family and was Director of the Lincoln National Life Foundation. In this issue, Lincoln's ancestry is discussed and includes a list of five generations of the Lincoln family. Excerpt from the pamphlet: "The ancestral line of but one of his four grandparents has been traced and that one is presented in brief in this first issue of 'The Lincoln Kinsman.'" In the back is a brief discussion of Abraham Lincoln's own writings of his ancestry. Also included with this pamphlet is an introductory printed letter that talks about The Lincoln Bulletin, its provenance, and its objectives. Excerpt from the letter: "An increasing number of requests are coming to the Lincoln National Life Foundation for data about the families from which Abraham Lincoln descended. This has suggested the possibility of publishing a monthly bulletin which would be confined exclusively to genealogical data about the Lincoln relatives. . This bulletin would serve as a supplement to the 'History of the Lincoln Family' prepared by Waldo Lincoln, bringing some of the family lines up to date and publishing new data on the Lincolnsmore recently discovered. A further objective of the bulletin would be the release of authentic information about the Hanks family gathered fifty years ago by Caroline Hanks Hitchcock.".

Excerpt from the issue: "This copy of The Lincoln Kinsman makes available names of those Hankses associated with the southern branch of the family. . Thus far there has been no satisfactory genealogical chart made of the southern branch of the Hanks family to show the relation of these thousand or more Hankses to the mother of Abraham Lincoln who was Nancy Hanks, presumably a daughter of James and Lucy Shipley Hanks." While there is no genealogical chart, this issue lists the names of the southern Hanks family. Preceding the list is a brief background on how the genealogy of the Hanks family was compiled and who contributed to research on the project.
