In this essay, originally published in "Matrix" in 2004, printer and farmer Bob Baris (fl. 1990s - present) relates vignettes of his life in his two professions, which might seem unrelated, but which to him are "as integral [to one another] as the pieces of cloth in an old Amish quilt." This essay is brought to life by the careful design and illustration of Carol Blinn, with delicate hand-colored illustrations and a very pleasant pasteboard binding with a subtle design and color gradation reminiscent of an evening landscape.
