This edited volume, originating from an international symposium, compiles 22 peer-reviewed chapters organized into two core parts: methodologies and applications. It reflects a growing trend in engineering and industrial design where emotional value is considered a critical axis of product development, alongside performance, reliability, and cost. It highlights the historical evolution of this paradigm from early experiments with fuzzy logic, artificial neural networks, and psychological economics (notably Kahneman's Nobel-winning work), to current interdisciplinary methodologies involving bio-signals, cognitive models, and machine learning. Part I introduces analytical tools and techniques used to model and assess emotional responses. These include neurophysiological approaches such as brainwave analysis for environmental comfort, computer vision and machine learning to evaluate emotional responses to traditional clothing, and near-infrared spectroscopy to assess sound-related emotions in e-reading environments. Methodologies also encompass modeling human migration using conjectural variations equilibrium, designing culturally sensitive web interfaces, and establishing data-driven strategies for user-centered design; they align with advancements in artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, human-computer interaction, and systems engineering. Chapters address topics such as: creating adaptive environments using bio-signal control; estimating social emotion through micromovement sensing; integrating aesthetic and tactile stimuli in product appeal; structuring affective design through cognitive and cultural modeling. The methodological diversity illustrates how emotional data can be captured, quantified, and applied across different domains. Part II translates the methodologies into tangible industrial practices. This section includes case studies and empirical investigations across multiple sectors, illustrating how affective engineering enhances product differentiation, brand identity, and user experience. Examples include: evaluating comfort and ergonomic design in chair backrests using pressure mapping; constructing brand loyalty through affective elements in Swiss luxury watches; assessing auditory feedback in car audio systems using wavelet signal analysis; enhancing garment production workflows in Japan and Italy via emotional design criteria; understanding user adaptation in online shopping through fabric recognition skills. Applications also span cosmetics, color psychology, and olfactory effects on sleep - demonstrating how sensory-emotional correlations can be exploited to improve product development and marketing strategies.
